Commoning Curatorial and Artistic Education #1 – Hammad Nasar

In my presentation I will use the experience of two recent exhibitions – Turner Prize (2021) and the ongoing British Art Show 9 (2021-22) – to consider the challenges of working with collectives and collectivity in contemporary art exhibitions.

Hammad Nasar is a curator, writer, researcher, and strategic advisor. His most recent exhibitions include British Art Show 9 (2021-22), Turner Prize (2021) and Rock, Paper, Scissors: Positions in Play – the UAE’s pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017). He is presently Senior Research Fellow, Paul Mellon Centre (London) and Lead Curator, Herbert Art Gallery & Museum (Coventry). Earlier, he was Executive Director of the Stuart Hall Foundation, London; Head of Research & Programmes at Asia Art Archive, Hong Kong; Principal Research Fellow, UAL Decolonising Arts Institute, and, co-founded Green Cardamom, London. He advises numerous arts organisations internationally and is a Board Member of the Henry Moore Foundation (UK) and Mophradat (Belgium).This program is part of a lecture series by the Shared Campus platform, Zurich University of the Arts, as part of one of the Summer Schools of CAMP notes on education:

The two-week Summer School wants to impact commoning strategies in fine arts, and curatorial education by inviting students, staff and external guests to co-teach and teach each other by sharing and discussing their situated experiences of practice and theory in an open and trustworthy way. Students are part of the Shared Campus platform, a network of eight partner universities from Switzerland, Great Britian, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Kollektivität ausstellen | Kollektivausstellungen

In meinem Vortrag werde ich die Erfahrungen zweier aktueller Ausstellungen – Turner Prize (2021) und die laufende British Art Show 9 (2021-22) – nutzen, um die Herausforderungen der Arbeit mit Kollektiven und Kollektivität in Ausstellungen zeitgenössischer Kunst zu betrachten.

Hammad Nasar ist Kurator, Autor, Forscher und strategischer Berater. Zu seinen jüngsten Ausstellungen gehören British Art Show 9 (2021-22), Turner Prize (2021) und Rock, Paper, Scissors: Positions in Play – der Pavillon der VAE auf der 57. Biennale von Venedig (2017). Zurzeit ist er Senior Research Fellow am Paul Mellon Centre (London) und leitender Kurator an der Herbert Art Gallery & Museum (Coventry). Zuvor war er geschäftsführender Direktor der Stuart Hall Foundation in London, Leiter der Abteilung Forschung und Programme am Asia Art Archive in Hongkong, Principal Research Fellow am UAL Decolonising Arts Institute und Mitbegründer von Green Cardamom in London. Er berät zahlreiche internationale Kunstorganisationen und ist Vorstandsmitglied der Henry Moore Foundation (UK) und von Mophradat (Belgien).

Dieses Programm ist Teil der Vortragsreihe der Shared Campus Plattform, Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, im Rahmen einer der Summer Schools von CAMP notes on education.Die zweiwöchige Summer School will Einfluss nehmen auf Kunst- und kuratorische Ausbildung mit Strategien der Gemeinschaft. Wir laden Studierende, Mitarbeiter*innen und externe Gäste ein, sich gegenseitig zu unterrichten und zu lehren, indem wir situierte Erfahrungen in Praxis und Theorie offen und vertrauensvoll austauschen und diskutieren. Die Studierenden sind Teil der Shared Campus Plattform, einem Netzwerk von acht Partneruniversitäten aus der Schweiz, Großbritannien, Taiwan, Hongkong und Singapur.
